Types of industrial oils and their applications

Industrial oils include lubricants used in industrial equipment.

Application of industrial oils

Industrial oils are one of the most important components in the production process of various industries. They play a key role in ensuring the proper functioning of equipment and machines, as well as providing protection against wear and corrosion.

Today, Wikipedia defines industrial oils as follows: “Industrial oils are distillate petroleum oils of low and medium viscosity used as lubricants, mainly in friction units of machine tools, fans, pumps, textile machines, as well as as a basis for the manufacture of hydraulic fluids, plastic and process lubricants.”

The use of industrial oils provides:

  • reliability of industrial equipment operation;
  • increasing the service interval of the equipment;
  • extending the service life of the units;
  • reduced operating temperatures;
  • facilitating the cold start of equipment;
  • protection of metal parts from corrosion;
  • reduced fuel consumption.

The main types of industrial oils

There are several main types of industrial oils, each of which has its own unique properties and applications.

Modern industrial oils are used in various industries such as automotive manufacturing, mechanical engineering, agriculture and others.

According to the type of use, industrial oils are classified into the following groups:

  • gear oils;
  • hydraulic oils;
  • compressor oils;
  • circulating oils;
  • turbine oils;
  • oils for sliding guides;
  • oils for gas engines.

Hydraulic oils are used in hydraulic lifting systems. Hydraulic oils are used to transfer pressure and control mechanisms. They have excellent lubricating properties and resistance to oxidation.

Gear oils are used in closed gearboxes. The oils are designed to lubricate and protect gears and other gear mechanisms, ensuring their long service life and efficient operation.

Compressor oils are used in the mechanisms of compressors of various types.

They are based on high-quality mineral base oils and a highly efficient additive system that provides an exceptionally high degree of protection and reliability of the compressors.

Compressor oils have high thermal stability, which allows them to operate at high temperatures without losing their lubricating properties.

Circulating oils are used in units with a closed forced lubrication system. The circulating oil has high thermal and oxidative stability, protects against deposits. The main purpose of circulating oils is the lubrication of bearings, spindles of lathes, mechanical drives and other industrial equipment.

Turbine oils are used in centrifugal turbines and turbochargers. Their use reduces shock absorption, friction and heat dissipation. used for lubrication and cooling of friction units of turbines, turbine units, turbopumps, turbochargers and related gearboxes, as well as in circulation and hydraulic systems of various mechanisms.

Sliding guide oils are used to process elements and structures responsible for the direction of movement. The sliding guide oils include carefully selected high-quality base oils and their performance characteristics are balanced by an advanced additive system, which provides high friction properties and reliable corrosion protection of parts and equipment.

The choice of industrial oil

The use of industrial oils is diverse and covers such industries as the automotive industry, metallurgy, chemical industry, construction, etc. The right choice of oil and its regular replacement play an important role in extending the service life of the equipment and maintaining its performance.
